When porn director Chi Chi LaRue spoke out last week for the health of actors in porn videos, some gay men were blunt: who cares about the health of the actors when it gets in the way of my entertainment? Then there are the nasty internet gossip mongers at Gawker, Defamer, and Perez Hilton…who all seem to be gay men. This got Two Gay Guys (aka Brent and Michael) thinking: what makes some gay men so damn mean?

Being gay in China: Your stories

Posted by: admin In: Twink News

A week ago China’s first gay pageant was cancelled, on orders from the police.

The event had been hailed as a new chapter of openness towards the gay community in China, where homosexuality was illegal until 1997 and defined as mental disorder until 2001.

Here three gay men in China describe the pressures they have to live with and the compromises they have to make.

Michael Tsai, 23, restaurant manager, Beijing

Michael Tsai

Michael Tsai, 23yo

I was going to be the host for the gay pageant Mr Gay China, but unfortunately the government has once again oppressed its people silently. It would have been a wonderful step but there is much more fear than understanding.

Although I wouldn’t call it discrimination, there’s definitely a pressure to conformity in Chinese society. The goal is to to marry and produce male offspring. Since the Chinese are allowed to have only one child there is even more pressure to conform.

Thankfully I come from a family of two boys and the need to carry on the family name has already been fulfilled. I am out to all my family, my friends and colleagues.

Although I do feel that the country as a whole has become a lot more tolerant, it isn’t necessarily more understanding

My family feels that if something is not spoken about then it either doesn’t exist or it will be forgotten. Even though they know I’m gay they still say things like “When you find your wife…”

I’m sure my parents are not thrilled by my sexual orientation but they seem to be dealing with it through denial and that’s perfectly fine with me.

China has become a get-rich-fast society, a society where you build up power and forget about everyone else. There are more things to worry about than who’s attracted to who.

Most of the older Chinese feel that being gay is just a phase and that eventually it will work itself out.

I don’t feel that there are any problems in China that I’ve come across. If we aren’t too loud and proud about it then the subject doesn’t even cross anyone’s mind.

Although I do feel that the country as a whole has become a lot more tolerant, it isn’t necessarily more understanding.

Gay Teen Worried He Might Be Christian

Posted by: admin In: Twink News

Lucas Faber has tried focusing on Godspell to keep the thought of tithing out of his mind.

Lucas Faber has tried focusing on Godspell to keep the thought of tithing out of his mind.

LOUISVILLE, KY—At first glance, high school senior Lucas Faber, 18, seems like any ordinary gay teen. He’s a member of his school’s swing choir, enjoys shopping at the mall, and has sex with other males his age. But lately, a growing worry has begun to plague this young gay man. A gnawing feeling that, deep down, he may be a fundamentalist, right-wing Christian.

“I don’t know what’s happening to me,” Faber admitted to reporters Monday. “It’s like I get these weird urges sometimes, and suddenly I’m tempted to go behind my friends’ backs and attend a megachurch service, or censor books in the school library in some way. Even just the thought of organizing a CD-burning turns me on.”

Added Faber, “I feel so confused.”

The openly gay teen, who came out to his parents at age 14 and has had a steady boyfriend for the past seven months, said he first began to suspect he might be different last year, when he started feeling an odd stirring within himself every time he passed a church. The more conservative the church, Faber claimed, the stronger his desire was to enter it.

“It’s like I don’t even know who I am anymore,” the frightened teenager said. “Keeping this secret obsession with radical right-wing dogma hidden away from my parents, teachers, and schoolmates is tearing me apart.”

Kirk McCambley become gay icon

Kirk McCambley become gay icon

The 21-year-old lover of Iris Robinson, 60, has become a gay icon poster-boy.

It has also transpired that Robinson, wife of Northern Ireland First Minister Peter had slammed Hillary Clinton during the Monica Lewinsky affair saying:

“No woman would put up with what she tolerated from her husband when he was president. She was thinking only of her future political career. It’s all about power not principle.”

Kirk McCambley was only 19 when Robinson, wife of Northern Ireland’s First Minister Peter Robinson commenced a torrid affair with him two years ago. Robinson later admitted to the affair and tried to commit suicide.

Robinson has called homosexual behavior an “abomination” and has won “Bigot of the year” awards in the past from Gay organizations in Britain.

Now Attitude, Britain’s best-selling gay magazine has asked Robinson’s lover to pose on the cover of it’s next edition.

Attitude editor Matthew Todd told the Belfast Telegraph his publication has been trying to contact McCambley.

He said: “We would love to see him on the cover of Attitude. We think our readers would go wild for him.”

McAmbley has also been the subject of numerous on line comments on the gay magazine’s web site. On comment stated, “going on the picture here, there’s no denying that he’s a very good looking lad”. Another said: “Attitude want Kirk as their next cover boy!!!! Please make this happen!!!”

He is also hot on Facebook. A new website called the Kirk McCambley Appreciation Society already has more than 3,629 members.

Just Asking… Ellen DeGeneres

Ellen DeGeneres talks about joining “American Idol,” her favorite singers to come out of the show and how she hopes to play nice with Simon Cowell

The show must go on. “American Idol” returns for its ninth season on Jan. 12 without Paula Abdul. Talk-show maven Ellen DeGeneres will take over as the newest member of the judging panel, joining Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi to decide which aspiring singers get the “Idol” spotlight.

Ms. DeGeneres took a break on the set of her daytime television show to talk about joining “Idol,” her favorite singers to come out of the show and how she hopes to play nice with Mr. Cowell.

The Wall Street Journal: What are you doing to prepare for your now role as a judge on “American Idol”?

Ellen DeGeneres : I’m starting to criticize everyone I see, no matter what. I’m like, you thought that was a good outfit to wear? I just start criticizing people. But really, I’m trying not to think about it too much… I don’t want to be influenced by anyone thinking I have to be different. I’m going to be myself and I’m going to be brutally honest in a kind way, I hope… Whatever comes out of my mouth will be a surprise to me and you.

WSJ: Paula Abdul was known as the nurturing judge. Do you think you’ll be a similar type of judge?

Ms. DeGeneres: I don’t know if I’ll be as nurturing as she is. She always found a positive thing to say instead of attacking. I’ll probably try to be somewhat encouraging. Just because in standup [comedy] there’s no where to hide. When you’re in a band, you’ve got the guitar player you can turn to but when you’re by yourself on stage I know what that feels like and I know it doesn’t feel good, especially with millions of people watching. But I’ll be honest. I don’t think it helps anybody to be encouraged and not told the truth.

WSJ: How will you balance doing “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in the morning and “American Idol” at night?

Ms. DeGeneres: It’s going to be challenging. I moved my schedule up on the show so I’ll shoot the show earlier in the day and jump in the car and run over to “Idol.” It will be energizing also because I’ll be able to come on my show the next day and talk about things that happened that people didn’t get to see. And I can be funny in a brand new atmosphere, in a different environment and that’s always stimulating to me. I get bored easily, so I like to do a lot of different things… In the long run, it’ll be better for me and for both shows.

WSJ: Will you plan to have more “Idol” contestants on your talk show, now that you’ll be a judge?

Ms. DeGeneres: No more than I normally do. I’ve always had them on. I’ve had the people who have been voted off on and I’ve had the winners.

WSJ: Now that Oprah is leaving daytime television, a lot of people are speculating about who will fill the post-Oprah void. How do you think her departure will impact “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”?

Ms. DeGeneres: I think Oprah has reigned as queen of daytime for 25 years, so there’s going to be a whole bunch of viewers—if we’re in markets opposite her—that we will hopefully gain and that’s going to be good for us. But there’s always competition, whether we are in that timeslot or not. Even if we move to that timeslot, we’ll be up against somebody. So you can’t count on something like that.

I’m happy with how we’re doing right now in the ratings. Hopefully we’ll do even better but there’s no guarantee because something could come along even if it’s not on the air right now. Someone could put something on the air even if it’s unexpected, so you just do the best show you can and hope people like you.

The federal trial on the constitutionality of California’s same-sex marriage ban beginning next week will be videotaped and uploaded to a video-sharing Web site, the presiding judge ruled Wednesday.

Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker, who first floated the idea of broadcasting the highly anticipated proceedings live several months ago, said he decided instead to have court employees record the trial for delayed broadcast on the YouTube Web site.

Walker did not explicitly say why he favored a system that could keep the proceedings from being aired for hours instead of one that allowed for simultaneous broadcast. But he said he felt strongly that “it’s important for the transmission to be absolutely within the court’s control.”

It will be the first federal trial in a Western state and one of only a handful nationwide to be taped and aired in public in any form. It also will be the first federal trial on whether denying gays the right to wed constitutes unlawful discrimination to be taped and offered to the public.

The governing body for federal courts in the West recently approved a pilot program that would for the first time allow cameras in civil trials being decided by judges.

Blood ban unfair to gay men, lawyer says

Posted by: admin In: Twink News

Canada-ban-gay-blood-donation

OTTAWA – Canadian Blood Services’ ban on donations by men who have had sex with a man even once since 1977 violates gay men’s rights because it deems them all threats to the blood system, a lawyer for a gay man who’s suing to reverse the policy argued Tuesday.

“It doesn’t matter whether you engage in anal sex at all, it doesn’t matter if you use a condom, it doesn’t even matter if you’re in a long-term monogamous relationship or if you’re legally married as a gay man,” Patricia LeFebour said.

“It doesn’t matter. Your blood isn’t wanted.”

Kyle Freeman is asking Superior Court Justice Catherine Aitken to strike down the CBS ban on donations by men who’ve had sex with another man even once since 1977.

He countersued when CBS sued him after tracing anonymous e-mails in which he admitted to lying about his sexual history in order to give blood.

The 10-week trial is now in closing arguments.

LeFebour argued the court should strike down the so-called MSM question and lifetime ban. Instead, stakeholders should agree on a scientifically-justifiable period of deferral — such as the 12 months imposed by Japan, Australia and South Africa.

Instead of one question, a series of questions about sexual practices could judge individual risk.

An estimated 15-20% of men who have sex with men engage in unprotected anal sex, LeFebour said.

But the majority practice safer sex and are at “negligible or no risk” of getting HIV or other infections, she said.

“By setting up the start date of 1977, that question captures all gay men — regardless of activity,” LeFebour said. “Not all gay men engage in high-risk activities.”

Freeman became a blood donor before he was even sexually active because he was moved by the call for donations and wanted to help.

He claims he was always tested for HIV before his 18 donations between 1990 and 2002 and didn’t donate during a three-year period when he was having casual sex.

Yet CBS is trying to “make an example” of her client after he’d sent them e-mails trying to start a “meaningful dialogue” about the ban was justified, LeFebour argued.

“Mr. Freeman requests simply that the court follow the path of previous decisions on sexual orientation and move to break down the insidious stereotype that all gay men are promiscuous carriers of disease,” he told the judge.
